An impartial sounding board
Very often when you are dealing with issues you can find it difficult to make sense of things. Everything just spins around in your head and you have the feeling of not getting anywhere.
If you talk to family and friends, they care about you, but very often will give you their opinion. This is okay, but doesn’t usually help you find your own way through things.
Speaking to a counsellor is different, because as a counsellor is only interested in what is best for you. By really listening and putting themselves in your shoes, they can be an impartial sounding board. When your issues are explored by someone independently, things get clearer and you get a better idea of what you want to do.
